HELP INDIAN COWS
In India where cows were once held
sacred, Western demand for cheap leather has spawned a grotesquely cruel underground
industry. A recent underground investigation documented suffering cows dying en
route to slaughterhouses or arriving with broken bones.
Because it is illegal to slaughter
cows in most of India, corrupt, skin-traders use bribes to smuggle the animals across
state borders at night. The cows and calves, who are bought under the false
pretense that they will go to live on rural farms, are marched for days to slaughter,
without food or water, in direct violation of the Constitution of India. Those who
collapse from exhaustion have their eyes smeared with chili peppers and tobacco and their
tails broken in an effort to keep them moving.
Please appeal to the Indian
government to enforce those laws that already exist that prohibit such cruelty and to shut
down the illegal cattle trade. The Indian government is monitoring the volume of
mail on this issue and needs to hear from YOU!
