Things Kids Can Do To Help

***KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR LOCAL PET SHOP***

Some pet shops don’t treat their animals very well. You can help by visiting the pet stores in your area, observing the conditions and making notes. Keep track of the wild animals that are being sold. If you find an endangered bird, reptile or other animal, immediately contact the nearest office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to report it.

Check the store for cleanliness and see whether you think the animals are healthy. If the cages are dirty or if the animals have dull coats, look sick or seem very tired, write or call your local humane society and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, 4700 River Road, Riverdale, MD 20737. Also, contact the Animal Welfare Institute, P. O. Box 3650, Washington, DC 20007 and tell them what you found.

Never buy a caged bird, exotic animal or trendy companion animal. These belong in their natural habitat. Protest the sale of animals like these with complaints and letters.
